Adani, There’s no need to dig coal
Hey Adani, and leave a poisonous hole
Hey Adani, with farmers paying the toll
We must leave it in the ground and
Adani, renewable we will go
Hey Adani, it will cost us less dough
Coal can stay there, and I’m sure we will find
Climate change re-duced just in time       So-lar and the wind!

Chorus
With sun to spare we say – Why Dig Up Coal    x2
With renewable pow’r from the wind and the sun
Enough – for everyone
With sun to spare we say – Why Dig Up Coal    x2
You can invest in what’s real, get a much better deal
How fabulous will you feel?

Adani, are you ready to see
Hey Adani, Queenslanders want you to be
Hey Adani, building green energy
And you got to know this one thing
Adani, If you go solar today
Hey Adani, we won’t make you go away
And we’ll thank you, because Why Dig Up Coal
When re-new-a-ble is the goal                   So-lar and the wind!

Chorus ….

Adani – there’s a fact you should know
Hey Adani, tribal elders say “no”
Hey Adani, so with Carmichael coal
We must leave it in the ground and
Adani, it’s Aboriginal land
Hey Adani, keep your cash in your hand
Hey Adani, don’t let your assets get stran-
-ded when all the world goes solar               So-lar and the wind!
Chorus ….

Leave It In The Ground, Adani (Mother Brown)

LEAVE IT IN THE GROUND – by Dermot Dorgan

Tune HERE:

Leave it in the ground, leave it in the ground,
We don’t want Adani’s coal, we say, we say, we say no
Leave it in the ground, leave it in the ground,
It’s THE solution! No Pollution!
Leave it in the ground.

Adani is a mining man and coal is what he seeks.
He wants to dig from our backyard
One, million tonnes a week.
But if that coal gets burnt, we’ll pay a shocking price,
So if you’re listening, mining man,
here’s some good advice:

Leave it in the ground, leave it in the ground,
We don’t want Adani’s coal, we say, we say, we say no
Leave it in the ground, leave it in the ground,
It’s THE solution! No Pollution!
Leave it in the ground.

Now if we burn a lot of coal, we’ll cause a lot of grief.
The heat will melt the polar ice – and, kill, the Barrier Reef.
And those providing funds,
both governments and banks
Have got to hear this loud and clear:
the people say NO THANKS!!

Leave it ….

Can you Hear the Drums ADANI?

Can you hear the drums, Adani?
I remember long ago when burning
coal spread warm delight
In the firelight, Adani
Whole generations fell in love
while maybe strumming on guitars
Not a thought of distant drums
No knowledge of disaster falling from the stars

(But) now we know the truth Adani
Every man & every woman knows t source of climate change
We are not afraid, Adani
For the Earth we’ll stand our ground
And your Headquarters occupy
W’ won’t be ashamed of jail
The act of non-compliance is our battle cry

There’s more carbon in the air each night
We’ve got to fight Adani
Causing climate change for you and me
It’s planet’ry Adani
And we know that we must never lose      The stage is set –
We’ll occupy your office suite  Until you’re beat Adani.

When we’re old and grey Adani
We’ll remember what we did when danger
looked us in the eyes
Will you dig that coal Adani?
Hist’ry will recall your part (if you) poison water with your hand
Can you see it in our eyes
How proud we are to fight for farmers in this land

There’s more carbon in the air each night    We’ve got to fight Adani
Causing climate change for you and me      It’s planet’ry Adani
And we know that we must never lose               The stage is set –
We’ll occupy your office suite  Until you’re beat Adani.
We’ll visit you at port and pit  Until you quit Adani
We’ll sing and dance and use our luuuuuungs  –

Can you hear the drums?  Adani

We will, we will stop you, Adani

This was a great song that appeared for the Westpac Action on Feb 20th 2017

We Will Stop You – Queen

(To the tune/beat of We Will Rock You. by Brian May, lead guitarist of Queen. Dunno who did this great reworking – if you do let me know)
Bold words are sung on the beat.

Intro: eight bars of dum dum chh beat. For dance moves, this translates to right/left stomps on beats one and two, followed by a clap on the third and nothing on the fourth.

Westpac don’t fund any new coal /

Can’t you see it’s a very bad plan these days /

We’ll get on your case, you big disgrace / (or maybe ‘your name disgrace‘ to avoid name-calling)

Waving our banners all over the place. Singing

Stop, Stop, Stop, Stop, Adani.  (In Brisbane we sang “We will, we will stop you, A-da-ni”)

Stop, Stop, Stop, Stop, Adani.

If you want to sing this song to Adani without mentioning banks, go to the song “Adani, Y Dig Up Coal” that is on the song list. To sing it to CommBank, just replace the word Westpac, with CommBank. But dammit – none of the other big bank names scan well. I’ll have to write a whole new song! Grrrr.

Westpac, There’s no need to dig coal
We say, Westpac, and leave a poisonous hole
We say, Westpac, with farmers paying the toll
We must leave it in the ground and
Westpac, renewable we will go
We say, Westpac, it will cost us less dough
Coal can stay there, and I’m sure we will find
Climate change re-duced just in time       So-lar and the wind!

Chorus

Enough – for everyone
With sun to spare we say – Why Dig Up Coal    x2
You can invest in what’s real, get a much better deal
How fabulous will you feel?

Westpac, are you ready to see
We say Westpac, investors want you to be
We say Westpac, funding green energy
And you got to know this one thing
Westpac, If you pledge it today
We say Westpac your customers they will stay
And they’ll thank you, because Why Dig Up Coal
When re-new-a-ble is the goal                   So-lar and the wind!

Chorus ….

Westpac – there’s a fact you should know

New ‘reefy’ verse for Powered by the sky

New Verse

It is best to Divest from coal and all the rest
Now that we’re powered by the sky.
Where the wind keeps on blowing,
And solar farms keep glowing,
beneath that sunny sky.
And my Daddy and mother spoke of it so well
That the pals of my childhood divested as well
Now our Super’s in trust
So the reef will not go bust
Now that we’re powered by the sky.

Reefs and Fossil Fuels (Love and Marriage)

Written for Woodford Folk Festival’s mock court case where the EDO took the people of Qld to court on behalf of the Great barrier reef for grievous bodily harm. The people of Qld lost, thanks to hilarious honesty from the peoples’ chief witness Prof Ian Lowe. In this court the reef won the several hundred million needed to prevent its deterioration. Let’s hope it becomes real.

Love and Marriage” Lyrics by Sammy Cahn and music by Jimmy Van Heusen. 1955

Reefs and Fossil fuels, Reefs and Fossil fuels
Go together like babies and power tools
Please don’t think I’m preaching
You can’t have Coal without mass bleaching

Reefs and Coal Mines, Reefs and Coal Mines
Go together like prams across rail lines
The story has a moral
You can’t have Coal without dead coral.

Risks are socialised, Profits are privatized
They go together when greed is supersized
This we tell Adani
We care more for the reef than money.

Repeat first verse ….

Old Adani has no Mine – THANKS!

Tune Old McDonald had a farm Everything repeats, except the one changing line.
#thankstoyouandme

This is a song to THANK all those who do the work: the emails, the fundraising, the difficult conversations. Thank YOU! This song is a prediction. There are two version of this song below. The first is a simpler one and the other has more activisty activities mentioned in it and is fun to sing, but not easy to learn!

EASY VERSION

Old Adani has no mine – Thanks to you and me
CHANGING LINE: and on that land are living trees
Thanks to you and me
with an email here, divestment there
here a letter, there a sit-in
everywhere a protest
Old Adani has no mine – Thanks to you and me

Other LINES for the CHANGING one:
and on that land live animals
and on that land we grow our food
and on that land the water flows
and on that land no poison-hole
under that land lies coal unburnt
and no more coal ships through our reef

 ……. Add as you wish!

HARDER VERSION

For a situation where everyone knows the words the following cumulative loops could be added. This makes it much like the original, in that it builds up.
There are so many Coal-fighting activities that ordinary people are doing, bless ’em!

So the song would go …

Old Adani has no mine – Thanks to you and me
and on that land are living trees
Thanks to you and me
with an email here, divestment there
here a letter, there a sit-in
everywhere a protest (if everyone shouts this line, that’s theatre! If they wave both hands on the air, that’s choreography))
Old Adani has no mine – Thanks to you and me

Old Adani has no mine – Thanks to you and me
and on that land the water flows
Thanks to you and me
with a court case here, donations there
Here a tweet, there a banner
every share on FaceBook
an email here, divestment there
here a letter, there a sit-in
everywhere a protest
Old Adani has no mine – Thanks to you and me

Old Adani has no mine – Thanks to you and me
and on that land live animals
Thanks to you and me
With a street stall here, petitions there
here a film, there a rally
Everywhere a Flash Mob!
a court case here, donations there
here a slogan, there a banner
every share on FaceBook
an email here, divestment there
here a letter, there a sit-in
everywhere a protest
Old Adani has no mine – Thanks to you and me!

(Now you all need to go for a beer!)

Divest your Super (Pack Up your Troubles)

Original words by George Powell (out of copyright)
Music by his brother Felix Powell

Divest your Super from the old Coal Mine
And smile, smile, smile
Divest your Super from the old Coal Mine
‘Cos fossil fuels are vile
What’s the use of profiting
No future in denial
So – Divest your super from the old Coal Mine
and Smile smile smile!

Divest your banking from that Coal Seam Gas
And smile, smile, smile
Divest your banking from that Coal Seam Gas
‘Cos fossil fuels are vile
What’s the use of mortgaging
If you’re building on denial
So – divest your banking from that Coal Seam Gas
And smile smile smile

Invest your money with your kids in mind
And Smile smile smile
Invest your money with your kids in mind
‘Cos fossil fuels are vile
What’s the use of parenting
If it’s only for a while
Invest your money with your kids in mind
And Smile smile smile
