‘Prosecute Adani’

This was a song sung outside Qld Parliament on Weds 5th Sept to demand that Adani got prosecuted for the coal dust and sludge spill at their coal port. And it came about!  They will be prosecuted  nothing like a good song to hurry things along

Written by Dermot Dorgan with Peter McCallum from Mackay Consevation Group. The tune is Alleluhia by Leonard Cohen and a great set of words.

PROSECUTION

We’ve listened to the evidence

Presented here for this offence,

It’s clear for guilt there is no diminution.

We all agree that for this deed,

Adani’s guilt is clear indeed

And now you should proceed to Prosecution.

Prosecution
Prosecution
Prosecution
Pro-se-cu-u-tion.

Last year when cyclone Debbie came

With mighty winds and flooding rain,

Adani’s people lied about pollution.

They said, “ It won’t be really gross

“One hundred milligrams at most”.

Their lies aimed at evading Prosecution.

Prosecution …

We’ve heard about the bad report
Adani tried to hide in court
They broke the rules and thereby caused pollution
The number it was 8-0-6
At Abbot Point … we saw the pics
And now the time has come for Prosecution

Prosecution ….

Well the case is strong and you have the proof,
The coal dust count went through the roof,
Coal flowed out to the Reef with no dilution.
Adani said it wasn’t fair
To send a fine, no you wouldn’t dare –
Take them to court and launch a Prosecution

Prosecution….

Now the case is won, it’s very clear

The penalty must be severe,

For crimes like this there is no absolution.

The public rightly must insist

No simple slap upon the wrist

Will do as a result of prosecution.

Prosecution….

Water for Life On this Land

Water for Life on this Land                                                                  Jenny Fitzgibbon 2011
This song is the same as Lock the Gates to this land, but changed for a Campaign.

The water – belongs to the nation on this land

The water – belongs to the nation on this land

The water – belongs to the nation

For feeding each future generation on this land

Water for life on this land

There’ll be a revolution on this land

If the price of gas includes pollution on this land

Water for life on this land

There’ll be no fracking or drilling on this land

Cos we don’t want no poison spilling on this land

Water for life on this land

They’ll see – that we’re not teasin’ on this land

We’re out to protect the Great Artesian on this land

Water for life on this land

Profits to be made by the million on this land

Leaving a clean-up bill of a billion on this land

Water for life on this land

1. “More Jobs” went the giant coal mine last night,
“More jobs” went the giant coal mine,
“More jobs” went the giant coal mine last night,
And they all went “Jobs, jobs, jobs.”

But we all know mines go [CLAP] “Where’s my dividend?”
[CLAP] “Where’s my dividend?”, [CLAP] “Where’s my dividend?”,
We all know mines go [CLAP] “Where’s my dividend?”,
They don’t go “Jobs, jobs, jobs.”

2. “It’s safe!” went the CSG firm last night,
“It’s safe!” went the CSG firm,
It’s safe went the CSG firm last night,
And they all went “Safe, safe, safe.”

But we all know firms go [CLAP] “Rush the permit through”,
[CLAP] “Rush the permit through”, [CLAP] “Rush the permit through”,
We all know firms go [CLAP] “Rush the permit through”,
They don’t go “Safe, safe, safe.”

3. “Ker-ching” went the CSG farm last night,
“Ker-ching” went the CSG farm,
“Ker-ching went the CSG farm last night,
And they all went “Ching, ching, ching.”

But we all know farms go [CLAP] “Where’s our water gone?”,
[CLAP] “Where’s our water gone?”, [CLAP] “Where’s our water gone?”,
We all know farms go [CLAP] “Where’s our water gone?”,
They don’t go “Ching, ching, ching.”

4. “We’re mates” went the National MP last night,
“We’re mates” went the National MP,
“We’re mates” went the National MP last night,
And they all went “Mates, mates, mates.”

But we all know Nats go [CLAP] “Do what Tony says”,
[CLAP] “Do what Tony says”, [CLAP] “Do what Tony says”,
We all know Nats go [CLAP] “Do what Tony says”,
They don’t go “Mates, mates, mates.”

Tune – this train is bound for glory, this train. The first verse can be used as a chorus.
Also see “Water for Life on this land” which is the same song for a different event, but might suit your purpose better.

Water In The Coal Seam

tune “Pick a Bale O’ Cotton” (trad.)
recorded by Leadbelly
parodied by Jenny Fitzgibbon and Kathy Earsman 2011

1. We’re gonna drill down pump up, water in the coal seam,
Drill down pump up, water for the gas,
Drill down pump up, water in the coal seam,
Drill down pump up, water for the gas.

Artesian, water in the coal seam,
Artesian, water for the gas,
Artesian, water in the coal seam,
Artesian, water for the gas.

2. We’re gonna pump down poison water in the coal seam,
Pump down poison water for the gas,
Pump down poison water in the coal seam
Pump down poison water for the gas.

Artesian, water in the coal seam,
Artesian, water for the gas,
Artesian, water in the coal seam,
Artesian, water for the gas.

3. We’re gonna drill down BOOM BOOM frackin’ in the coal seam,
Drill down BOOM BOOM frackin’ for the gas,
Drill down BOOM BOOM frackin’ in the coal seam,
Drill down BOOM BOOM frackin’ for the gas.

Artesian, water in the coal seam,
Artesian, water for the gas,
Artesian, water in the coal seam,
Artesian, water for the gas.

4. We’re gonna pump up poison water from the coal seam,
Pump up poison water with the gas,
We’re gonna pump up poison water from the coal seam,
Pump up poison water with the gas.

Oh! poison water from the coal seam,
Oh! poison water for the gas,
Oh! poison water from the coal seam,
Oh! poison water for the gas.

5. We’re gonna drill down pump up water for the cattle,
Drill down pump up water for the crops,
Drill down pump up water for the cattle,
Drill down pump up water for the crops.

Oh! poison water from the coal seam,
Oh! poison water for the gas,
Oh! poison water from the coal seam,
Oh! poison water for the gas.

6. No more poison, frackin’ in the coal seam,
No more poison, frackin’ for the gas,
No more poison, frackin’ in the coal seam,
No more poison, frackin’ for the gas.

Artesian water for the nation,
Artesian water for the crops,
Artesian water for the nation,
Artesian water for the crops.

—————

And some more complex verses if you are able to direct it …!
(This one can be sung slowly, reflecting the reduction in water table due to mining’s use of water)

We’re gonna drill down, drill down, drill down, pump up, a trickle for the cattle,
We’re gonna drill down, drill down, drill down, pump up, a trickle for the crops,
We’re gonna drill down, drill down, drill down, pump up, a trickle for the cattle,
We’re gonna drill down, drill down, drill down, pump up, a trickle for the crops.

Bubble up, bubble up, gas among the cattle,
Bubble up, bubble up, gas among the crops,
Bubble up, bubble up, gas among the cattle,
Bubble up, bubble up, gas among the crops,

Oh! poison water for the cattle,
Oh! poison water for the crops,
Oh! poison water for the cattle,
Oh! poison water for the crops.
